Our vacation this year involved 5 countries. Turkey was really a "bonus" because it turned out to be the best airfare. With Turkish Airlines, if you have a long enough layover, they give you a free tour of Istanbul (Constantinople). Our tour included the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace, a walk around the Hippodrome (see the Obelisk of Theodosious, 395 AD). Unfortunately Hagia Sophia was closed and we did not have an opportunity to visit the Grand Bazaar. But our little "taste of Turkey" has placed it squarely on our bucket list of places to explore.
